We are bound to some people while here on earth:  those we have a soul contract with, those we may have wronged in a past life; those we owe a karmic dept.  They are the easy ones.  We feel physically/mentally/spiritually compelled to help these people; we go above and beyond the call of “relationships” to nurture, love, and support them and it makes our heart’s sing. There are others, however, we are bound to who are not so easy.  We go round and round with these folks and we are not sure why or what it all means.  Maybe it is just such a person who IS part of our soul group (but unlike the former example, they don’t make us feel very warm and fuzzy, so we never really think of them that way).  We could have gone round and round and round with these people for lifetimes.  Look at your situation and then put it into the context of “what if this relationship/struggle has to do with a past life?”  Look at it like actors in a play:  protagonist/antagonist.  For some people are put in our lives to help trigger/motivate/aggravate (antagonize) us into action.  Looking at this “divine play,” ask yourself:  if we’ve gone round and round like this before, in other lifetimes, what can I do in this life to stop the struggle; to finally make it right?  You’ll have to be open to act above and beyond the call of duty (beyond typical actions/reactions) for such a resolution.  You’ll have to be the spiritual superhero in this case and LOVE in the face of ridicule, CARE in the face of neglect, GIVE in the face of selfishness.  Forgive them – for they know not what they do.  OR maybe they do.  Maybe they were put here for you to come to this point in your life where you make a stand and become the better person.  Some day you may even thank them.
